Known for taking on challenges and his kind, engaging and calm presence, Dan has been developing and managing both overnight and day camps for over 20 years.
Dan has a deep and rich history in the YMCA movement, having spent years at Frost Valley YMCA and YMCA of Long Island. At both locations Dan was responsible for all camp-related program, staffing, budget and managerial oversight. He grew registration, introduced technology and data based analysis (yes, he is a bit of a geek!) and ensured a robust and engaging culture for staff and families. Both locations provided Dan the opportunity to consult with multiple YMCA’s and gain a reputation as a content expert, with his opinions and expertise sought after by colleagues and executives nationwide.
With a master’s degree specializing in youth development, Dan’s work has been recognized for program and research excellence. He has volunteered in multiple capacities for ACA NY-NJ and the New York State Camp Directors Association.
In 2022 Dan joined Immersive1st as a senior consultant and has been assisting clients in mission critical areas such as staffing, recruitment, coaching and marketing/communications. He is the senior partner of the Day Camp Community and manages the day-to-day operations.
Meet Dan Weir
David Phillips is a native of the UK and Principal of Immersive1st Consulting, a firm that assists camp organizations with fundraising, planning and analysis, capital projects, governance, public relations, program creation & implementation, lay/pro coaching and acute challenges. He has been active in the camp sector for over 35 years (and counting!).
As a consultant he works with a variety of camps, retreat centers, community agencies, centers of worship and schools, etc. His passion is to do important things with good people that make a difference. He is a strong advocate for kindness and positive communal culture and has been instrumental in a series of initiatives around this and other priority issues. A frequent author of ACA articles, he is a sought-after speaker and educator.
David graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Pittsburgh with a master's degree in social work focused on community organizing and development. He has a trademark British sense of humor, and his not-so-secret passion is football (read: soccer), as both a supporter and referee.
He is married to Karen, and they have two adult children and a dog named Murray. They live in Jupiter, Florida.
